Central Ohio sustainability summit is Oct. 8

sumit logo for GBThe Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission hosts the Summit on Sustainability and the Environment on Oct. 8 in Columbus. The program includes sessions on the Weinland Park food district (“Sustainable Food and Sustainable Economy”) (CFAES’s outreach arm, OSU Extension, is a partner on the project) and on building a resilient, energy-efficient economy (the moderator is Jeff Sharp, interim director of CFAES’s School of Environment and Natural Resources). Registration is $85 plus a $5.24 fee.

Green Energy Ohio Tour is Oct. 3-6

wind turbine blue skyThe Renewable Energy Program at ATI, the associate degree-granting unit within CFAES in Wooster, is one of 200 possible stops on the 11th annual Green Energy Ohio Tour, which goes from Oct. 3-6 in 37 counties across Ohio. Featured will be clean energy and green design at homes, schools, parks, businesses and more. Admission at all of the tour stops is free.

smokestackCFAES’s Kerry Ard, an assistant professor in the School of Environment and Natural Resources, presents “Changes in Exposure to Industrial Air Pollution Across the U.S. from 1995-2004: The Role of Race, Income and Segregation” from 4-5:30 p.m. today on Ohio State’s Columbus campus (with a video link to OARDC’s Wooster campus) as part of the school’s autumn seminar series. See award-winning ‘Watershed’ film at Ohio State wetland this Sunday

wetland flier 2CFAES’s School of Environment and Natural Resources hosts a screening of the award-winning film “Watershed: Exploring a New Water Ethic for the New West” from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Wilma H. Schiermeier Olentangy River Wetland Research Park, 352 West Dodridge St., Columbus. Jerry Tinianow, Denver’s chief sustainability officer, will provide introductory remarks. David Rutter, Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission, will give a local perspective on the impacts of climate change in the Scioto River watershed. An optional tour of the park takes place at 5 p.m. Admission and parking are free, but freewill donations will be accepted. Whole Foods will provide refreshments. Details: mccready.20@osu.edu. Register by Sept. 30 for nutrient runoff, water quality program

blue water for GBA press release sent out today has details on the Oct. 1 Breakfast Club program of the Environmental Professionals Network, which features a panel discussion on nutrient runoff and water quality by the heads of the Ohio Department of Agriculture, Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. CFAES Dean Bruce McPheron will moderate. Registration, which is $10 and includes breakfast, is due by 10 a.m. Sept. 30.
