  1. Hello,
I am a horticulture instructor at our county vocational high school, A-Tech, in Jefferson, OH. I am very interested in learning more about aquaponics and programs that you offer. We currently have a small aquaponic system using Koi, but I also want to introduce shrimp into this system or start a second one. Thank you for your time.

  2. Hello,
Are staff memeber permitted to bring commuting bikes into their office’s or work building?

The reason I stopped commuting is because in my current work location there are no indoor parking options. And as a serious cyclist, with a lot of money wrapped up in my bike, I cannot leave my bike outdoor where it is vulnerable to theft and damage. I feel OSU should promote cycling for health and green iniciatives while offering secured parking for staff. Or simply let them bring their bikes into their personal work spaces if applicable.

According to my recent Biometric screening, in an 8 month span:
I’ve gained 17 lbs and increased a full 2 inches on my waist since no longer commuting by bike. Not to mention the carbon footprint growth.

It’s time for OSU to take a serious look at this and become a little more progressive. we are behind the times, it should be the norm to see staff members walking their bicycle into the office. it no different that a backpack, umbrella, or pair of walking shoes. WHY NOT.

    • Hi, Jack: I understand your interest in the health (and environmental!) benefits of bicycle commuting, and also your concern about the safety of your bike. I did find the following statement under OSU Policies, specifically under Transportation and Parking Rules, dated June 22, 2012: “No person shall park a bicycle other than in a bicycle rack or designated bicycle parking area.” I’m guessing that part of that rule, maybe a big part, is to prevent the blocking of sidewalks, access ramps, fire exits, etc., by locked bikes. https://ap.osu.edu/sites/default/files/ttm_codified-rules.pdf

If you haven’t done it already, it might be something to bring up with your supervisor, building contact, or HR person to see if there are, or could be, some other options possible -such as a designated area somewhere out of the way inside your building — something that would meet the rule and any considerations re: access, sanitation, fire codes, etc.

    • Thanks for the heads up. Joe Kovach retired a couple of years ago and it seems that page was changed. I’ve updated the post with a link to a page that has several other articles about the project.
